Diagnosis: Omphalocele
Discussion: Omphalocele, also spelled omphalocoele and known as exomphalos. This is a very rare abdominal wall defect which occurs due to developmental anomalies occurring early in pregnancy where there is pushing of intestinal loops out of the abdominal cavity and does not return into the abdominal cavity during a later period of time of development as expected. Persistent externalization of intestine and other abdominal viscera (stomach or liver) results in an omphalocoele.
