Diagnosis: Diffuse esophageal spasm
Description: Diffuse esophageal spasm (DES), known also as distal esophageal spasm. DES is a condition characterized as non-coordinated contractions of the esophagus. This may result in difficulty swallowing, dysphagia, or regurgitation. DES can cause chest pain, and ultimately mimic heart disease. DES etiology is unknown in many cases. On radiographic views, DES is demonstrated by a corkscrew appearance or a ‘rosary bead’ appearance.
